Construction is the foundation of our society, and Matthew finds the opportunity to work and build relationships in this niche exciting and very beneficial to the firm. Since starting in public accounting, construction has always interested him. “People discussing how challenging the tax returns can be got me excited for trying to conquer a new challenge,” says Matthew. He views accounting as detective work, putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, adding, “There are few things more satisfying than finding the issue or the exact number you were off by.”

At TRP Sumner, Matthew provides tax planning and preparation for corporations, partnerships, and individuals. He serves as the primary contact for over 100 clients, trains newer staff, and coaches lower staff members. He also represents the firm at social and college events.

Matthew earned his Master of Science in Accountancy with a focus in tax from Liberty University and his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Campbell University, graduating magna cum laude. He was his high school valedictorian.
